Concord grape Matcha latte

I’ll admit it: I’m much more of a coffee drinker. But this right here makes me feel like maybe I, too, could be a matcha girlie.

Concord grapes only exist for a brief moment each year, and if you’re lucky enough to find them, you’ll understand why every other grape wishes it tasted like this one. They’re the reason grape candy tastes the way it does… jammy, perfumed, tannic, almost unreal.

This latte is simple but layered: ceremonial-grade matcha, Concord grape purée, and softly frothed milk..

Concord grape puree:

  • 1 lbs Concord grapes, stems removed

  • 2-3 T sugar or sweetener of choice

  • 2-3 T water

  • 1 tsp lemon juice (optional)

Method

  1. Add grapes, sugar, water to a small pot. Simmer over medium heat until the skins burst and the grapes release their juices, about 8-10 mins.

  2. Transfer to a blender, blend until smooth. Strain if you prefer a silkier puree.

  3. Stir in Lemon juice. Chill completely.

  • Matcha Latte

  • 1 tsp Matcha

  • 2 oz hot water

  • 1-2 oz of Concord grape puree

  • 6 oz almond milk or milk of choice

  • ice

  • Method

  1. in a small bowl whisk matcha with hot water until smooth and frothy.

  2. To assemble, add Concord grape puree to the bottom of a glass. Fill with ice, then pour in the cold milk.

  3. Gently float the matcha over the top. Sip as is for a layered flavor, or stir to combine.

Tip: You’ll have extra grape puree, use it like a mini fruit preserve: serve with soft cheeses, spread on toast, swirl into yogurt or oats, or even vinaigrettes.

A simple ritual, a little cooler, and a seasonal twist.
